How to type raised ᵘ
There are two ways of typing a raised ᵘ in a text document.
- ✖ NOT RECOMMENDED: the formatted raised u. This is the raised u created by applying styling to a normal u using the superscript button in programs like Microsoft Word. We do not recommend using this method to type raised u as it can have frustrating consequences. When you create a raised u using this method, you can often lose the applied formatting when you send the document to someone else, open the document on a different system or with a different program, or when you copy and paste anywhere, especially online.
- ✔ RECOMMENDED: the unicode raised u (U+1D58). This u will always display as ᵘ no matter what, think of it like a photograph, you can insert it anywhere and it will always look the same, even in the future.
To type the unicode raised ᵘ, see the pages below based on your system/device, or you can copy it directly from an existing document or webpage, like here: ᵘ
